Dear Mr. Dunn:

I have been out of town for a few days but want to let you know that I had no problem self-reporting of my continuing education credits last week.  After your email message alerting me that self-report was now available online, I reported my courses.  The self-reporting system recognized SunCam without any problem.  I reported the two SunCam courses that I successfully completed and should be ready for renewal next month.

Since I do not check the FBPE web site on a regular basis, I really appreciated your email with the self-reporting notice.  Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Jose Quintas, P.E.

“SunCam should be commended for providing an innovative and time-efficient means for engineers to fully experience the FBPE disciplinary process.

Thanks”

“I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting the session was and how diverse the details of each case were.  I definitely had a new appreciation for how difficult it is to come to a just conclusion in some cases.

The opportunity to complete this requirement via videotape was very much appreciated since I no longer live in
Florida but still maintain my license there.  I received the postcard from SunCam the evening before I was scheduled to fly to Orlando for the February meeting and I was able to cancel my flight and hotel, and, even with the penalties for cancellation, I
still saved my company over $600.  In addition, another engineer in my office took the test from the same videotape, so he too saved the company money!”

“We watched the Laws and Rules tape in a group of about 6, and took breaks to comment on the cases presented, the merits of the arguments put forward by the engineers and the handling of the cases by the Board.  We agreed with how the cases were handled and had a lot of comments about some of the actions by the engineers, e.g., in one case it seemed that an engineer was cutting corners, going a bit above his personal skill level to do a favor for someone, that later went sour. It made us all very aware that doing a "favor" for someone else is not worth jeopardizing our license, or the embarrassment of the potential expense of remediation.  It was very enlightening because none of us had seen the Board in action before.  It made us feel good about the Board as well, because we believed they acted fairly and consistently regardless of race or gender, but the discussion it generated among us (e.g., discussing some of the things folks tried to pull over on the Board) made it the most fun of any continuing education course I have ever attended, and with the economy of it, we plan to do it every year.”

“I start by thanking you and your company for the opportunity to "attend by video".  The quality of the video, the test, and your follow-up were first-rate.

I too was affected by the experience; seeing fellow engineers squirming on the hot seat brings home the consequences of non-compliance in a very real way.

But once is enough; my appreciation will surely be replaced by resentment as subsequent videos infringe on my time.  Where will this end?  It is not uncommon to be registered in six or more states - will we practitioners end up logging more hours at state board meetings than board members?

I recognize the salutary effect of these videos, just as with videos on the consequences of drug use, smoking, excessive drinking, etc.  But must drivers stop at each state line to watch a video on drinking and driving before being permitted to drive in that state?

Again, thanks for the fine service you provide, and I wish you continued success.  But let's hope this
Florida example does not catch on too well!”

“I viewed the video tapes, took the test, and received credit.

I was skeptical at first, but actually found the video tapes interesting and in some parts enlightening...particularly the cases involving discipline matters with registered engineers.  The tapes were prepared professionally, and the Board Members exhibited a respectful and consistent approach to issues.

Although I frequently browse reviews of disciplinary actions in the newsletters of various state PE publications, I found that actually watching the proceedings resulted in a greater appreciation of the consequences of non-compliance.”

I really enjoyed the video. It provided a lot of insights into the process and procedures of taking the EI or PE exam, introduced me to the members of the board, and reinforced the significance of quality control of any project.

The video taping of the Florida's "Laws and Rules" was superb...actually felt like I was present.  The board's tough yet fair interpretation of the law to discipline its own proved once again why the engineering profession enjoys the highest levels of public confidence.

“After I had a chance of viewing the two videotapes regarding Florida's new "Laws and Rules", I was amazed with all the ethical and legal issues that a Florida PE can be faced with if he is not aware and/or careful with all new "Laws and Rules". I am glad that I took the course and successfully passed it.”

At first I was skeptical of the value of the new law and the value of the video tape compliance with the law.

I am very happy to say that the video tape of the board meeting provided me with significant and valuable insights to the workings of the board. I am no longer skeptical of the new law or of the method of delivery.

"I entered the program; Florida requirement, with the feeling that this was another compliance necessity which many states have in one form or another. After going through the video/quiz I do feel more in tune with the importance of the "Board" and its workings on our behalf. It gave me a better appreciation of the statutes and Board publications from my "home" state of Tennessee and other states where I'm registered.

I have recommended the course to others I know who are currently registered in Florida. I consider this one of the better "PDH" programs I have completed. The only thing I would change is the difficulty of the quiz; I feel it should be a little more of a challenge.

Thanks,"
