Course Objective

This continuing education course is written specifically for professional engineers with the objective of relating to and enhancing the practice of engineering.

Course Description

110-Corrosion Control and Tactics

This course provides an overview of the nature of aqueous corrosion and the variety of standard methods and well-known, but often overlooked tactics, used to control it at least cost. Topics reviewed include some fundamental aspects of electrochemistry related to control methods, brief descriptions of the various forms of attack, effects on corrosion rates of various operating variables, the four classic control methods and some suggested control tactics that the engineer can investigate further for applicability to his or her specific corrosion problem. Several references are cited.

Many general principles and techniques were explained on a high level that actually made sense to me. However, the course confirmed that I need to review the basic chemistry before going too much further.

Dense but useful content and a wide ranging discussion of the multiple factors that affect the various modes of corrosion. Pictures of real life corrosion examples would have been useful. Some long paragraphs could have benefitted from a breakup into smaller focused thoughts.

Possibly the worse course I've taken. Questions were poorly worded and were difficult / impossible to relate to the course material. I hope I remember never to take another course by this guy. I hate to even rate this course as 1 star. No stars should be an option.

I is a broad course on the topic. A lot of concepts to grasp. I would like to see a follow up on the protection of pipelines and pipe type cable systems using things like the dairy land isolator and how to set the current for appropriate CP

Tremendous amount of information for a wide variety of corrosion issues is presented in a concise fashion. By necessity, the information is basic, but helpful. Some background in electrochemistry and metallurgy can make for easier study. Test questions fairly represented the material.

Useful review of corrosion and it's control. However, the presentation could be improved. Excessive use of run on sentences, convoluted wording, unnecessary abbreviations, and undefined words make for slow reading. Abbreviations for two words or less should never be used and are not in widespread use as the author thinks.

I only gave this course one star because zero is not an option. This is NOT a four hour course, fourty hours would be more reasonable. I am a materials engineer and familiar with the material. The material took me more than a day to get through and the test took several hours.

My interest in this subject relates to broadcast facilities - galvanized and painted towers, grounding for lightning protection, for primary power and for the buried copper wires that extend radially from AM radio towers. This course was very instructive, and it demonstrated to me that corrosion control is a very involved field of study. Very educational.

I am a nuclear engineer involved in aging management and life cycle analysis of the aging fleet. Corrosion of all types is our biggest challenge and I found this course challenging (88% on the first try). One aspect missing in the course is quantifying and measuring techniques for corrossion in order to take timely preventive or corrective action.
