Course Objective

This continuing education course is written specifically for professional engineers with the objective of relating to and enhancing the practice of engineering.

Course Description

170-Horizontal Curve Design To Prevent the Rollover of Heavy Trucks

Heavy trucks, such as tractor-trailers and tanker trucks could rollover at speeds that are less than the design speed of the curve they are traveling on. Friction factors that have been established for design of horizontal curves may not be satisfactory for heavy trucks. This course will provide the highway engineer with the information necessary to check horizontal curves against the special needs of heavy trucks.

Good information on a subject that gets overlooked. Question #2 of test needs to also state that mph needs to be replaced by Km/h ignorer for equations to convert to metric system.

Excellent course, hit some key issues. The truck rollover issue had not been properly addressed in highway design for too long a period. Note that rollovers also can occur due to load shift. I investigated a major accident of this type as part of my forensic practice

Mr. Heavey did an excellent job on pointing out that not much is being by the Departments of Transportation to help prevent rollovers of Heavy Trucks. The course was excellent and probably be a requirement for Commercial Drivers.
