Course Objective

This continuing education course is written specifically for professional engineers with the objective of relating to and enhancing the practice of engineering.

Course Description

205-Introduction to Designing Machine Control Systems, Part 1

This course is an introduction for designing Machine Control Systems. Eight systematic design steps are presented to help guide the design process towards the goal of developing safe and reliable control systems.

For engineers of other disciplines, information is included that will help provide back ground information where projects incorporate Machine Control Systems. For the novice, a number of topics are presented that will be a guide for further in depth study. Philosophical design issues are presented for those with previous controls design experience. The reader should have at least a working understanding of electricity.

This is the first part of a two part series. Part 1 presents overall system design issues up to the supply power into Control Cabinets. Part 2 addresses aspects of design from inside of the control cabinet out to the field wiring.

This course is more advice than an actual course. I completed the course but would not recommend it.

I have taken several SunCam courses over the years and found them to be useful and informative. I found this course to be lacking in structure and logical progression. I stopped after about ten pages and went on to a different course.

Good practical info. Great course. Some of the wording of the questions was confusing, but overall they were fair.

Course could use some proof reading and editing. More illustrations and diagrams would have been helpful to explain topics.

Above average as an introductory course. The test questions were good in that several question required some thought be put into selecting an answer.

Course content is sound, however some questions on the test are written such that the test taker is unclear as to what is being asked, or what the various choices are. Test should be revised for clarification purposes..

Not enough clarity in some questions. I don't agree with your analysis of questions, 6. A machine frame can define an interface pointand and qualify as a function.

The questions were structured so as to squelch the old "read the question and search the text" trick, so you actually have to learn stuff and apply it to sort things out. Good deal!
