Course objectives

  • Those who take this course should already have a basic understanding of a PV system. This course will briefly review and highlight the components and process of designing a solar power system for small structures but does not provide all of the explanations and basic information found in the introductory course (Solar Power Part I to Design for Small Structures - An Introduction).  This course provides more details and calculations used when expanding beyond a very basic system and by providing additional information on items not included previously such as surge protectors, battery capacities and their selection, DC appliances, sample solar system schematics, and emerging technologies. This course is intended to build on the Solar Power Part I and Solar Power Part II introductory courses.

The circuit from the inverter or Solar AC disc should be wired to breaker in the Main Breaker Panel for over current protection. The battery string should have a disc sw. I like the links. You might add a list of links, suppliers and references at the end of each chapter.

Good course. Some of the questions are worded tricky, but gets the point across. Glad to take the course and plan to use the many references included for system components to design a future PV system. Still, I think the green advocators are color blind to the required green money for a "Total Installed System." On the other hand what is cost if the system is a must due to circumstances.

Well presented. Coverage was appropriately detailed. The description regarding battery AH ratings was a bit confusing. I was looking for a quantitative variable such as energy available, since you made note of the higher resistance effect in the 100 hour rating.
