COURSE OBJECTIVEAlthough many can benefit, three specific groups are targeted with the following goals.
• Provide a practicing Professional Engineer (PE) with the information or refresher on wind power with the minimum knowledge to properly evaluate the design and testing of a system.
• Provide a practicing Engineer with the requisite knowledge to adequately review and analyze designs and testing for compliance with goals and requirements.
• Provide a licensed Electrician with an understanding to be able to assess impacts on systems for installation or design changes, and proper safe operation.
Information is focused on the overall design considerations of wind turbines especially those that impact the concomitant electrical design. While some may consider the information limited, terse for those with more knowledge, it is meant to provide an overview of theory and application for those dealing with the many aspects of wind power, all while inserting enough references for more detailed study.
Focus will be on the basics of knowledge given that truly understanding the basics helps in maintaining necessary skills along with the ability to accomplish tasks competently and confidently.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of this course will be on wind power with a view of those items most impacting the electrical side of the design. The many challenges of wind power are mentioned and some of the ways of minimizing said challenges are mentioned.
NOTE
Access to any basic theory book (see the References) is helpful but is not required for completion of the course(s).
